New York Jets hires Adam Gase as head coach

The New York Jets have hired Adam Gase as their new head football coach. He replaces Todd Bowles, who was fired at the end of the season.

Gase was also fired at the end of the season after serving as the Miami Dolphins head coach. He served as the Dolphins head coach for three seasons.

The franchise is hoping that Gase can help the development of Sam Darnold. He struggled in his first-year in the NFL after being the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Dolphins went 23-25 under Gase. After a 10-6 record in their first season, including a playoff appearance, Miami has missed the playoffs the last two seasons.

The team has gone 13-19 in those two seasons.

This season, the team went 7-9. After winning the first three games of the season, the team went 2-5 in their next seven games. Following the team’s bye, the team went 2-4 to end the season.

Prior to being named Dolphins Head Coach, t he 40-year-old Ypsilanti, Michigan native was the Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator. He was the Denver Broncos Offensive Coordinator in 2013 and 2014.

He also served as the Broncos Quarterbacks Coach in 2011 and 2012. He was the Broncos Wide Receivers Coach in 2009 and 2010.

Gase served as an Offensive Assistant with the San Francisco 49ers in 2008. He was the Detroit Lions Quarterbacks Coach in 2007.

He was the Lions Offensive Assistant in 2005 and 2006. Gase also was a Scouting Assistant with the Lions in 2003 and 2004.

He was the LSU Tigers Recruiting Assistant in 2001 and 2002. He began his coaching career as a Graduate Assistant with the Tigers in 2000.
