Jets planning to hire Gregg Williams as Defensive Coordinator

New New York Jets Head Coach Adam Gase is close to making an impactful hire to fill his Defensive Coordinator position. Gase is close to hiring Gregg Williams for that role.

Williams was previously the Cleveland Browns Interim Head Coach for the final eight games of the 2018 season. He guided the team to a 5-3 record and put the team in playoff contention, before being eliminated in the final two weeks of the season.

Before taking over the reins as the Browns Interim Head Coach, he was the Browns Defensive Coordinator since the 2017 season. Prior to being hired by the Browns, he was the St. Louis Rams Defensive Coordinator before the team relocated to become the Los Angeles Rams from 2014 through 2016.

He was the Tennessee Titans Senior Assistant Defensive Coach in 2013. He also was the Rams Defensive Coordinator in 2012.

He served as the New Orleans Saints Defensive Coordinator from 2009 through 2011. He was the Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Coordinator in 2008.

Williams was the Washington Redskins Assistant Head Coach & Defensive Coordinator from 2004 through 2007. He also served as the Buffalo Bills Head Coach from 2001 through 20003.

As the Bills Head Coach, he went 17-31. His best season with the team was an 8-8 mark during the 2002 season.

He was the Tennessee Oilers Defensive Coordinator before the team was rebranded as the Titans from 1997 through 2000. He was the Houston Oilers Defensive Assistant/Special Teams/Linebackers coach from 1990 through 1996.

He was the Houston Cougars Graduate Assistant in 1988 and 1989. He began his coaching career as the Beltion High School Pirates Head Coach from 1984 through 1987.
