According to sources, the Arizona Cardinals are going to have a former head coach on first-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s staff. The sources are indicating the Cardinals are close to hiring Vance Joseph as their Defensive Coordinator.

Joseph was previously the Denver Broncos Head Coach. He spent the last two seasons as the Broncos Head Coach.

While the Cardinals are close in negotiations, no deal has been struck yet. Before this news broke, there was speculation that he would be a candidate for the Cincinnati Bengals head coaching position.

On Thursday night, news broke that the Bengals will hire Los Angeles Rams Quarterbacks Coach Zac Taylor as their new Head Coach. The team cannot officially sign Taylor until the Rams season ends.

As the Broncos boss, he went 11-21 in those two seasons. His best season with the team was in 2018 when the team went 6-10.

This gives Kingsbury, who has no prior NFL head coaching experience, to rely on Joseph on some decisions.

Before being named Broncos head coach, he was the Miami Dolphins Defensive Coordinator in 2016. He also was the Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Backs Coach in 2014 and 2015.

He also was the Houston Texans Defensive Backs Coach in 2011 and 2013. He served as the San Francisco 49ers Defensive Backs Coach from 2006 through 2010.

Joseph also served as the 49ers Assistant Defensive Backs Coach in 2005. He was the Bowling Green Falcons Defensive Backs Coach in 2004.

He also served as the Colorado Buffaloes Defensive Backs Coach in 2002 and 2003. He was the Wyoming Cowboys Defensive Backs Coach in 2002.

He began his coaching career with the Buffaloes as a Graduate Assistant in 1999 through 2001.
