The New England Patriots face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game on Sunday night. The game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on CBS at 6:40 pm EST.
The Patriots bring a 12-5 record into this game. They; however, are just 3-5 on the season.
The Chiefs are 13-4 on the season. They are 8-1 at home this season.
The Patriots are three-point underdogs against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship. This is a rare position for the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick-led Patriots since 2007, which was in 2013 at Denver, according to sportsbettingdime.com’s Sascha Paruk.
The sharp money is coming in on KC so far due to several factors: the Pats have been sub-par on the road all year (3-5 in the regular season); Arrowhead provides one of the best home-field advantages in all of the NFL; and the Chiefs, who are now 8-1 at home this season, rank first in the entire league in DVOA. Their once-vulnerable defense has shown dramatic improvement in recent weeks and, thanks to their dominant pass rush, are well suited to cause problems for slow-footed Brady.
Apart from Brady/Belichick’s play resume, there’s every reason to expect a KC win, which puts the value on Chiefs -3.
This is the second meeting between these two teams during the 2018 season. They played a thriller back on Oct. 14 when the Patriots won 43-40 at Gillette Stadium.
The Chiefs won the 2017 meeting when they won 42-27 on September 7th.
In the past 10 games, the Patriots have a 7-3 advantage. The teams have not played in a game since Sept. 29, 2014 at Arrowhead Stadium when the Chiefs won 41-14.
New England has a 35-20 playoff record, including five Super Bowl Championships. Their last playoff loss came in the Super Bowl in February 2018 to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Their last AFC Conference Championship game came in a 24-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2017 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
The last time they were defeated in the AFC Championship game was on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 on the road against the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The Broncos won 20-18.
The Chiefs are 10-18 all-time in the playoffs, including one NFL Championship and one Super Bowl win. Their last playoff loss came in a 22-21 loss at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 against the Tennessee Titans.
Their last Conference Championship loss came in a 30-13 loss to the Buffalo Bills at Rich Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 23, 1994 in Buffalo, New York.
They have not won the Conference Championship game over the Oakland Raiders in the American Football League’s Championship on Jan. 4, 1970 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, California. The Chiefs won 17-7.
The Patriots have won their last three games. Their last loss was a 17-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 16th, 2018 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Chiefs also bring a two-game win streak into the game. Kansas City has not lost since December 23rd, 2018 when they lost 38-31 to the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington.
