Edgar Martínez has been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2019 in Cooperstown, New York on Tuesday. Martínez is the only hitter of this year’s class that will be inducted into the Hall in July.
He is joined in the Class of 2019 with closer Mariano Rivera and starting pitchers Mike Mussina and Roy Halladay. Martínez and Halladay received 85.4% of the vote.
Rivera was the first player ever to receive a 100% of the vote. Mussina received 76.7% of the vote.

A player had to receive at least 75% of the vote to be elected.
Martínez will be the first Mariners player in the Hall of Fame since Ken Griffey Jr. in 2016. He is the first true Designated Hitter in the Hall of Fame.
Previously, Frank Thomas was the first Hall of Famer elected, who spent nearly half of his career as a DH.
In his final season, he had a .263 batting average with 12 home runs and 63 RBIs in 141 games. He also had 23 doubles on 128 hits, while scoring 45 runs.

The 12 home runs were the fewest he had in a season since 1993 when he had four in 42 games.
In his career with the Mariners, he had a .312 batting average with 309 home runs and 1,261 RBIs in 2,055 games. He also had 514 doubles and 15 triples on 2,247 hits while scoring 1,219 runs.
