The Texas Rangers have signed free agent infielder Asdrúbal Cabrera. His contract will be a little less than $5 million, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
The 33-year-old Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela native will be his sixth MLB team. This will be his third American League team, as he previously played for the Cleveland Indians and the Tampa Bay Rays.
The two-time All-Star spent the 2018 season with the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies following a trade. The Phillies acquired his services on July 27 in exchange for minor league prospect Franklyn Kilome.
With the Mets, he had a .277 batting average with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs in 98 games. He also had 23 doubles and one triple on 104 hits with 48 runs.
Following the trade to the Phillies, he had a .228 batting average with five home runs and 17 RBIs in 49 games. He also had 13 doubles in 39 hits with 20 runs.
