The San Francisco 49ers have promoted Martin Mayhew to being the new Vice President of Player Personnel. He was previously the Senior Personnel Executive.
Mayhew has worked with the 49ers since the 2017 season. Before joining the Bay Area team, the 53-year-old Daytona Beach, Florida native also worked as the New York Giants Director of Football Operations in 2016.
He was the Detroit Lions General Manager from 2008 through 2015.
He is one of 49ers GM John Lynch’s top lieutenants, who helps make decisions.
Lynch, Mayhew and the rest of the 49ers front office will attempt to help the team improve on their 4-12 record in 2018. The franchise has the second overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The 49ers schedule went downwards after losing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a torn ACL. The team went 4-4 at home, while going 0-8 on the road.
One year ago, Mayhew interviewed for the Carolina Panthers General Manager job. However, that job eventually went to Marty Hurney.
