SBD’s editor Sascha Paruk official Super Bowl prediction is for the Patriots to win and cover the 2.5-point spread. Early betting action hammered the Patriots, and it wasn’t just because of their past postseason success. Advanced metrics like DVOA also favor the Patriots at this point. When you factor in playoff performances, New England is the more efficient team in all three phases of the game.

And while no one will question Sean McVay’s offensive genius, Bill Belichick has flexed his game-planning muscles in the playoffs, reminding everyone that he is the greatest tactician in football history.

This is the first meeting between these two teams since the 2016 season. The Patriots won that meeting 26-10 over the Rams on Dec. 4, 2016.

The Rams have not won in his series since the 2001 season. Then the St. Louis-based team won 24-17.

In the last 10 meetings, the Patriots hold a 6-4 advantage.

The Patriots are in the Super Bowl for the third straight year. It’s also their ninth Super Bowl appearance since the 2001 season.

New England was defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII last year at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Eagles won 41-33 over the Patriots.

This was their first Super Bowl loss since the 2011 season against the New York Giants.

The Patriots last won the Super Bowl at Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons. They won 34-28 in overtime over the Falcons.

In the third quarter, the Falcons led 28-3 before the New England began their comeback.

New England brings a four-game win streak into the contest. They have not lost since a 17-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 16, 2018.

The Patriots are averaging 27.3 points per game. Their defense is allowing 20.3 points per contest.
