The Miami Dolphins are expected to release quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the off-season. This has been known for quite some time.

The Dolphins considered trading him. However, due to his contract, it is impossible to deal him.

Due to the poor quarterback market, Tannehill should be able to find a job, where he may be able to compete for the starting job.

There’s a chance that he could restructure his contract to be traded. But the odds are he is going to be released outright and be free to sign with whoever he wants to sign with.

According to Spotrac.com, the Dolphins will save $13.4 million if he is released prior to June 1st. Miami could save even more if he is designated after a June 1st release with $18.75 million.

Miami is facing $13.4 million in dead cap space by making this move. The reason? The team restructured Tannehill’s contract in 2018.

The 30-year-old Big Spring, Texas native was the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played six seasons with the team after missing the 2017 season with a torn ACL.

This season, he played in 11 games with 11 starts. He went 5-6 in those contests. ‘

Tannehill went 176 of 274 for 1,979 yards. He had 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

In his final game with the Dolphins, which was a 42-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 30, he went 18 of 31 for 147 yards. He also had two touchdowns.

He did not have a single 300-passing yardage game of the season. His best game was in Week 3 against the Oakland Raiders when he went 17 of 23 for 289 yards. He also had three touchdowns.

He had two additional games, where he threw for three touchdowns. He also had three touchdowns in Week 13 in a win against the Buffalo Bills.

Tannehill also had three touchdowns against the New England Patriots in Week 14.
