According to NBC Bay Area’s Raj Mathai, the Oakland Raiders will play their 2019 season in San Francisco, California. The report suggests that the team has reached an agreement with the San Francisco Giants to play their regular season games at Oracle Park.

Mathal insists that the news will come out this week. He announced the news on the same night as Super Bowl LIII at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Raiders have been looking for a new home since their lease with the Oakland Alameda Coliseum expired after the season. The town sued the Raiders after it was announced that the team was relocating to become the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020.

If this does happen, it’ll allow the Raiders to stay close to their fan base for one more season. The Raiders even considered playing games at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California in addition to potentially playing home games in London, England.

Oracle Park — which was previously known as AT&T Park — has previously hosted football games. From 2002 through 2013, the field hosted the San Francisco Bowl before it changed to the Emerald Bowl, and the Fight Hunger Bowl.

Since the 2014 season, the location changed as it moved to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. It was named the Foster Farms Bowl from 2014 through 2017, before changing its name to Redbox Bowl in 2018.

Besides a college football Bowl game once a year when it was operating at the facility, Oracle Park also was the temporary home for the California Golden Bears when it had to do renovations to their on-campus stadium, California Memorial Stadium.

The last professional football team to play there was the San Francisco Demons of the XFL in 2001.
