The San Francisco Giants have entered into the mix in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes. He recently met with the team, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
Heyman also alleges that there have been several teams, who entered the mix in the last week or so. This may have indicated that the price has dropped.
It was believed that he was going to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies. However, that may not happen now, as the landscape has changed with new teams in the mix.
The 26-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada is the most coveted player on the free agent market. Despite being that, he hasn’t signed over the past several months since the end of the World Series in October.
It is believed that Harper would sign the richest deal in MLB history. Currently, New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton has the largest deal at $325 million, which he signed with the Miami Marlins.
The former National League MVP played seven seasons with the Nationals. In 2018, he had a .249 batting average with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs in 159 games.
The 34 home runs were the most since his career season in 2015 when he had 42 home runs. Harper also had 34 doubles on 137 hits, while scoring 103 runs in 2018.
