Hagan looks to win back-to-back season-openers

Drag Racing kicks off its 2019 season this weekend. The Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtecttheHarvest.com will officially start on Friday. 

In the professional classes, there will be Top Fuel, Funny, and Pro Stock. In this article, we’ll focus on the Funny Car class.

2018 Funny Car World Champion J.R. Todd will lead the field. Presently, there are 17 Funny Cars entered into the mix for the season-opener. 

One Funny Car will not make the show on Sunday. Only the Top 16 Funny Cars make the show.

Frank Pedregon, the brother of Cruz Pedregon, will be racing at this event. He has not competed in a while. He will be piloting the Worsham Family Funny Car. 

Outside of the regulars, Terry Haddock, Phil Burkhart Jr., Jeff Diehl, and Gary Densham will be competing. 

Matt Hagan won the 2018 season-opener in Funny Car. This was one of three wins that “Hulk” had on the season.

Funny Car living legend John Force has the most wins ever at this event with 16. 

On Friday, the nitro qualifying will start at 3:30 pm EST/12:30 pm PST. The night nitro session will kick off at 6 pm EST/3 pm PST. 

The nitro qualifying session No. 3 will start at 3:30 pm EST/12:30 pm PST on Saturday.  Their final qualifying session will take place at 7 pm EST/4 pm PST. 

Sunday eliminations will begin at 2 pm EST/11 am PST.
