The Philadelphia Phillies acquired catcher J.T. Realmuto on Thursday. In exchange, the Miami Marlins are receiving catcher Jorge Alfaro, top pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez, and pitcher Will Stewart.
Miami will also an international signing bonus slot worth up to $250,000.
Realmuto finally finds his new destination. He has been rumored to be involved in trades for quite some time now before the Marlins struck a deal with the Phillies.
This deal is made one week before spring training starts. This deal also might have increased the odds that the Phillies will sign Bryce Harper, who is a fan of Realmuto’s.
The new acquisition will now be under the control of the Phillies at least for the next two seasons.
The 27-year-old Del City, Oklahoma native spent five seasons with the Marlins. He made his first All-Star game appearance in 2018.
Realmuto had a .277 batting average with 21 home runs and 74 RBIs in 125 games. He also had 30 doubles and three triples on 132 hits with 74 runs.
The 25-year-old Sincelejo, Colombia native spent the last three seasons with the Phillies. In 2018, he had a .262 batting average with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in 108 games.
He also had 16 doubles and two triples on 90 hits with 35 runs.
