Auto Club of Southern California Funny Car pilot Robert Hight is the provisional No. 1 qualifier on Friday at at the 59th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com. Hight went 3.871 at 329.67 mph during his second pass at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California.
The Yorba Linda, California native finished second in points during the 2018 season behind Funny Car champion J.R. Todd.
“Honestly, I thought the run was going to be in the top four,” Hight said. “I thought there were some other cars that were going to run equally as well so I didn’t think it was going to hold up. I feel like there’s more left in it and Jimmy Prock (crew chief) is pretty enthused about it.”
NAPA Auto Parts Funny Car pilot Ron Capps is the provisional No. 2 qualifier. The Carlsbad, California native went 3.915 at 304.87 mph.
Global Electronic Technology Funny Car pilot Shawn Langdon is the provisional No. 3 qualifier. The Indianapolis, Indiana native went 3.927 at 325.77 mph.
Make-A-Wish Foundation Funny Car pilot Tommy Johnson Jr. is the provisional No. 4 qualifier. The Avon, Indiana native — who got married this past December — went 3.929 at 314.61 mph.
Snap-On Tools Funny Car pilot Cruz Pedregon is the provisional No. 5 qualifier. The Brownsburg, Indiana native went 3.930 at 328.14 mph.
