The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman David Schlemko and center Byron Froese in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. In exchange, the Canadiens received forward Dale Weise and defenseman Christian Folin.
In a corresponding move, the Flyers have recalled defenseman Philippe Myers from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for Saturday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. The team also played forward Corban Knight on waivers.
The 28-year-old Gothenburg, Sweden native was in his first season with the Flyers. Folin appeared in 26 games, where he had two assists for two points. He had a 5 +/- and 16 PIM.
This will be his fourth NHL team, as he also played for the Minnesota Wild and the Los Angeles Kings.
The 30-year-old Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada native spent two-and-a-half seasons with the Flyers. This season, though, Weise made 42 appearances. He had five goals and six assists for 11 points. He also had a -6 +/- and 15 PIM.
Weise returns to the Canadiens, where he previously played during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. He also played for the Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, and the Chicago Blackhawks in his career.
The 28-year-old Oliver, British Columbia, Canada native was in his first season with the Flyers. He played in just three games with the team.
Whomever claims Knight would be his fourth NHL team. He previously played for the Calgary Flames and the Florida Panthers.
The 31-year-old Edmonton, Alberta, Canada native spent the last year and a half with the Canadiens. This season, he appeared in 18 games. He had two assists for two points with a -1 +/- and 4 PIM.
The Flyers will be Schlemko’s seventh NHL team. He previously played for the Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, and San Jose Sharks.
The 27-year-old Winkler, Manitoba, Canada native has not played this season in the NHL. He last played for the Canadiens during the 2017-18 season when he appeared in 48 games. He had three goals and eight assists for 11 points. He also had 26 PIM.
This will be Froese’s fourth NHL team. He previously played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
