Apollos use 17-point fourth to defeat Commanders

The Orlando Apollos came from behind to get their second win of the season. The Apollos scored 17-points in the fourth quarter to defeat the San Antonio Commanders, 37-29, on Sunday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. 

The Apollos improved to 2-0 with the win. The Commanders fell to 1-1 on the season.

Apollos quarterback Garrett Gilbert went 19 of 28 for 393 yards. He had two touchdown passes.

D’Ernest Johnson had eight carries for 57 yards. Charles Johnson had seven receptions for 192 yards and a touchdown. 

Commanders quarterback Logan Woodside went 20 of 39 for 223 yards. He had one touchdown pass and one interception. 

Kenneth Farrow had 13 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown. Demarcus Ayers had five receptions for 80 yards. 

The Apollos outscored the Commanders 20-11 in the second half. The team scored 17 points in the fourth quarter alone. 

Gilbert hit Jalin Marshall for a 23-yard touchdown reception. Keith Reaser scored on a 38-yard interception for a touchdown. 

Following the Reaser score, Gilbert hit Rannell Hall for a two-point conversion. Elliott Fry made a 47-yard field goal. 

Fry also made a 24-yard field goal in the third quarter. 

Commanders’ Joey Mbu scored on an eight-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Following the score, Woodside converted the two-point conversion with a pass to Evan Rodriguez. 

Nick Rose made a 37-yard field goal.

The Commanders outscored the Apollos 18-17 in the first half. Farrow scored on a 15-yard rushing touchdown. 

Woodside hit Rodriguez for a one-yard touchdown reception. Rose made two field goals. 

Rose first made a 50-yard field goal. He also made a 38-yard field goal. 

De’Veon Smith scored a one-yard rushing touchdown for the Apollos. Gilbert hit Johnson for a 21-yard touchdown reception. 

Fry made a 35-yard field goal.
