Apollos use 17-point fourth to defeat Commanders

The Orlando Apollos came from behind to get their second win of the season. The Apollos scored 17-points in the fourth quarter to defeat the San Antonio Commanders, 37-29, on Sunday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. 

The Apollos improved to 2-0 with the win. The Commanders fell to 1-1 on the season.

Apollos quarterback Garrett Gilbert went 19 of 28 for 393 yards. He also had two touchdowns, including one two point conversion. 

D’Ernest Johnson had eight carries for 57 yards. De’Veon Smith had four carries for four yards and a touchdown, in addition to a two-point conversion. 

Charles Johnson had seven receptions for 192 yards and a touchdown. Jalin Marshall had three receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown. Chris Thompson had two receptions for 70 yards. 

Commanders quarterback Logan Woodside went 20 of 39 for 223 yards. He also had one touchdown and one interception. 

Kenneth Farrow, II had 13 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown. Marquise Williams had three carries for 32 yards. 

De’Marcus Ayers had five receptions for 80 yards. Mekale McKay had two receptions for 36 yards. Aaron Green had three receptions for 35 yards. Evan Rodriguez had two receptions for six yards and a touchdown. 

Orlando scored 20 points in the second half. Keith Reaser intercepted Woodside for a 38-yard pick-six. Gilbert hit Rannell Hall for a two-point conversion. Gilbert hit Marshall for a 23-yard touchdown. 

Elliott Fry made two of his three field goals in this half. 

San Antonio scored 11 points in the second half. Joey Mbu scored on an eight-yard fumble return for a touchdown. Woodside hit Rodriguez for a two-point conversion. Nick Rose made one of his three field goals in the second half. 

The Commanders led 18-17 at halftime. Farrow, II scored on a 15-yard rushing touchdown. Woodside hit Rodriguez for a one-yard touchdown reception. 

Rose made two field goals.

Apollos’ Smith scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown. Smith following that up with a two-point conversion. Gilbert hit Johnson for a 21-yard touchdown reception. 

Fry also made a field goal.
