According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, talks have intensified between free agent outfielder Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies. While says things are starting to heat up between the two sides, no deal is imminent yet.
There is momentum that the Phillies could potentially strike a deal with the top free agent. Harper reportedly wants a long-term deal.
The Phillies, Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres, and the San Francisco Giants were all in the mix for the 26-year-old star.
The 26-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada is the most coveted player on the free agent market. Despite being that, he hasn’t signed over the past several months since the end of the World Series in October.
It is believed that Harper would sign the richest deal in MLB history. Currently, New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton has the largest deal at $325 million, which he signed with the Miami Marlins.
The former National League MVP played seven seasons with the Nationals. In 2018, he had a .249 batting average with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs in 159 games.
The 34 home runs were the most since his career season in 2015 when he had 42 home runs. Harper also had 34 doubles on 137 hits, while scoring 103 runs in 2018.
