Cain Velasquez was out longer than his return fight lasted. The UFC on ESPN 1 main event lasted just 26 seconds at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.
Francis Ngannou knocked out (punches) Velasquez in the first round.
This was the quickest bout on the card. Emily Whitmire had the second-fastest at 1:01 into the first-round over Aleksandra Albu with a rear-naked choke submission.
In addition, this was just the second KO (Punches) on the entire fight card. Luke Sanders defeated Renan Barao by KO (Punches) in the second-round.
“The Predator” has now improved to 13-3 in his MMA career. Nine of his 13 wins have come via knockout for the Paris, France native.
Ngannou is now on a two-fight win streak. He defeated Curtis Blaydes at UFC Fight Night 141 by TKO (Punches) in the first-round on Nov. 24, 2018.
This was Ngannou’s first KO (Punches) win since he defeated Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 by KO (Punches) in the first-round on Dec. 2, 2017.
This also could be the fastest fight in his career. He defeated Blaydes by 45 seconds.
He also defeated Lucas Ngeleka at SHC 10 by Submission in the first-round. However, there is no time registered on Sherdog.com for that bout.
Velasquez — who is considered the greatest heavyweight fighter of all-time — fell to 14-3 in his career. This is his second loss by knockout.
This was Velasquez’s first bout for the Salinas, California native since defeating Travis Browne by TKO (Punches) at UFC 200. That was on July 9, 2016.
This was the fastest fight in Velasquez’s career, as well. The match was doomed after the 36-year-old went down with an injured knee.
Jason Herzog, the official in the ring for the bout, called off the fight a short-time later.
