The Ottawa Senators have fired head coach Guy Boucher on Friday. He has been replaced by Associate Head Coach Marc Crawford on an interim basis for the rest of the season.

The 47-year-old Notre-Dame-du-Lac, Quebec, Canada native spent two-plus seasons as the Senators head coach. He guided the team to a 22-37-5 record through 64 games when he was let go.

His final game coaching the Senators was in a 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.

The Senators are dead-last in the Atlantic Division with their 22-37-5 record through those 64 games. They are on a six-game losing streak.

In fact, the 22 wins are the fewest of any team in the NHL.

The 58-year-old Belleville, Ontario, Canada native will have his first head coaching position since the 2010-11 season. Crawford was fired following a 42-29-11 and missing the playoffs after that season.

This is the seventh NHL coaching firing in-season. The last came on Feb. 10th as the Anaheim Ducks fired Randy Carlyle and named Bob Murray, who is also the team’s GM, as the interim coach for the rest of the season.

Of the coaching firings, this is just the second involving a Canadian team. The Edmonton Oilers fired Todd McLellan on Nov. 20, 2018, before hiring Ken Hitchcock out of retirement.
