Race car driver Tanner Thorson was involved in a mutli-car accident in Modesto, California. The sprint car driver was one of several parties in the fiery crash on northbound Highway 99 early Monday morning, according to KCRA.

The 22-year-old Thorson was the driver in the pickup truck that was pulling his sprint cars when he reportedly crashed into a milk truck around 4 am local time. The incident happened near Hatch Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

Besides Thorson’s vehicle and the milk truck, two other vehicles also crashed into the scene. CHP believe Thorson was speeding at the time of the accident.

When Thorson crashed, his vehicle erupted into flames. He reportedly suffered broken bones in the accident.

He is expected to survive. CHP also said that Thorson was drowsy at the time of the crash.

They believe his drowsiness may have contributed to the crash.

The authorities did not release any updated on the milk truck driver, or the conditions of the other parties in the two other vehicles. A passenger, according to CHP, in the milk truck suffered minor injuries.

Thorson maintains his racing operation in Sacramento, California.
