The San Diego Christian Hawks have promoted Dwayne Cosby to the men’s basketball head coach position. He was the school’s interim head coach for the 2018-19 season.
“SDC is blessed to have Coach Cosby join our staff officially,” Peters said. “His experience and love for Christ will continue to impact our institution, department and basketball program. The passion, skill, and energy this past season brought more engaged fans and competitiveness in the GSAC.
“I look forward to working with Coach Cosby as we continue to strive for excellence.”
The team went 9-18 during the season under Cosby. The school also went 5-13 in conference play in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
The five conference wins were the most since the 2011-12 season.
Cosby is presently in his second stint at the school. Before being named interim head coach, he was an assistant coach at the school in 2016-18.
He also served as an assistant at the school in 2010-2012. He then left to work at Point Loma, where he was an assistant coach from 2013-15.
He also coached at Cal Baptist from 2005-07 and La Sierra from 2001 through 2005. His first coaching opportunity came in 1999-2000 at Riverside Community College.
“This is an opportunity of a lifetime. It so surreal,” Cosby said. “I am happy to be a part of the movement and the direction this athletic department is going. I would like to thank CP and Dr. Ague with the potential they see in me to be the next head coach of this program.”
