The Washington Redskins acquired quarterback Case Keenum in a trade with the Denver Broncos. The Redskins are also receiving a seventh-round draft pick in this deal.
The Broncos are acquiring a sixth-round draft pick for their former starting quarterback.
Keenum became expendable after the Broncos acquired Joe Flacco in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. Flacco is slated to be the team’s starter in 2019.
In Washington, Keenum will compete for the starting position. He will compete against Colt McCoy, who is expected to be the front-runner for the job.
The Redskins were put in a tough predicament last Nov. when former starter Alex Smith went down with a horrific injury against the Houston Texans. Smith’s injury could be a career-ending injury, but the team is holding out hope that he could potentially return to the field one day down the road.
