The New Orleans Saints has announced a five-year extension for kicker Wil Lutz. He has been reliable for the team after signing with the team as a free agent in 2016.
Since losing out on the kicking battle to Justin Tucker in Baltimore, Lutz has made 87 of 100 field goals during his time with the Saints. He also has made 148 of 153 extra points.
He was slated to be a restricted free agent before reaching this agreement.
The 24-year-old Newman, Georgia native went 28 of 30 in field goal attempts this past season. He missed one from 40-49 range and the other came from 50+ yards.
In addition, Lutz made 52 of 53 extra point attempts.
In his three-year career with the Saints, Lutz is perfect in kicks from 0-19 and 20-29. He missed three kicks from 30-39, while missing four kicks from 40-49 range.
Lutz also missed six kicks from 50-plus range.
He was one of the best kickers on the market. One notable name is Stephen Gostkowski, who may not re-sign with the New England Patriots.
