According to The Spun, the NCAA has another investigation on their hands. The college sports governing body is investigating the Kansas Jayhawks football and men’s basketball team.
These are reportedly separate investigations. The football program is being investigated for “infractions committed by an assistant of former head coach David Beaty.” Beaty was fired by the Jayhawks in November.
He was replaced by Les Miles. The school is also reportedly being sued by Beaty, as he claims they are withholding money after he was fired.
The Jayhawks are hoping that Miles could turn the program around. They have not had a winning season since the 2008 season when former head coach Mark Mangino guided the team to an 8-5 record, before a win in the Insight Bowl in a 42-21 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona.
Bill Self’s basketball program as been investigated by the NCAA before. This time around, his program is being investigated for an alleged bribe to Zion Williamson.
In addition, the program being investigated for ‘eligibility issues’ with Silvio De Sousa. He has been ruled ineligible through the 2019-20 season.
“We always have concerns when there are allegations against one [of] our schools,” Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said. “I don’t have any inside information. Those conversations take place between Kansas officials and the NCAA.”
Previously both programs were hit with infractions in 2006. This caused the programs to be both be hit with a probation and small penalties.
