His challenger Alex Laughlin did not make an attempt. After doing a burnout, he had problems and his car was shut down.

“I had no shot of winning rounds today,” Butner stated. “Second and third round we didn’t get down the track. The KB guys never gave up and I made the best run of the weekend in the finals. We were real ready for the final.”

Before this final round, Laughlin held a 5-3 advantage over Butner in prior events. He also held a 2-0 advantage over Butner in previous final rounds.

During the single, Butner put up the quickest pass of the weekend. This is his second win in the first three events of the season.

The Floyds Knobs, Indiana native considered retirement in the off-season, before being talked into returning. He now has nine career wins.
