The Los Angeles Rams signed free agent quarterback Blake Bortles on Monday. He received a one-year deal.
Bortles had interest from several teams, including the Rams, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Denver Broncos. However, neither of those teams had a starting job for him.
He is expected to serve as the backup during the 2019 season to Jared Goff. He replaces Sean Mannion, who is a free agent.
Goff has not missed a game in his young career. If Los Angeles has to face that in 2019, they have a veteran with starting experience to replace him.
The 26-year-old Oviedo, Florida will be joining his NFL team with this move. He was the Jacksonville Jaguars third overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
He spent five seasons with the Jaguars before his release.
Bortles made 13 appearances, including 12 starts with the Jaguars in 2018. He went 3-9 in those games, including being benched for the first-time in his career.
He went 243 of 403 for 2,718 passing yards. He had 13 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.
The former UCF player only has one winning season as a starter in the NFL. The game in 2017 when he started all 16 games, and guided the team to a 10-6 record.
He went 315 of 523 for 3,687 passing yards. He also had 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
