Throwback: Thomas wins fourth NASCAR Grand National at Langhorne

As we continue to look back on Langhorne Speedway in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, Herb Thomas won the fourth NASCAR Grand National event at Langhorne Speedway on Saturday, September 15, 1951 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Thomas was driving the Fabulous entry for his own race team to victory.

He led five of the 150 laps. Thomas also received the $1,275 prize for the win.

Fonty Flock finished second in his Red Devil entry for Frank Christian. He led 130 laps.

Walt Chapman’s entrant Dick Rathman was the third-place finisher. Chapman actually had the third and fourth place cars, as John McGinley raced to the fourth-place finish.

Flock’s brother Tim finished in fifth in his Black Phantom entrant for Ted Chester. This Flock brother also led 15 laps.

Five cars were involved in a crash and did not complete the race. Those five were Don Block, who finished 21st after crashing his ‘50 Ford.

John DuBoise finished 28th after crashing his ‘50 Plymouth. Bill Remaly finished 29th after crashing his ‘49 Ford.

Frank Holzhauer finished 35th after he crashed his ‘50 Plymouth. Dawson Lechilder finished last at 36 after he crashed his ‘51 Henry J.
