The Tennessee Lady Volunters has fired women’s basketball coach Holly Warlick. She was the head coach for the last seven seasons.

She replaced legendary coach Pat Summitt before the 2012-13 season. The 60-year-old Knoxville, Tennessee native has been at the school since 1985.

As the Lady Volunteers head coach, she went 172-67 overall. She also had a 78-34 record within the Southeastern Conference.

This past season was her worst season at the school. The team went 19-13 overall and 7-9 within the conference.

Tennessee was 10-7 at home this past season. However, combined on the road, the team was 9-6.

The team also lost in the first-round of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament. The UCLA Bruins defeated the Lady Volunteers 89-77 on Saturday, March 23rd in College Park, Maryland.

This was the first-time that the Lady Volunteers failed to get out of the first-round during her tenure. The past two seasons before this year, the team was eliminated in the second-round.

In her first four seasons, she guided the team to three NCAA Elite Eight appearances in 2012-13, 2014-15, and 2015-16. She also guided the team to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2013-14.

Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz has had his name come up as a possible replacement. According to the Louisville Courier Journal, he has called the rumors a “slap on the face to current coach.”

“I know all these rumors always get started in March,” Walz said. “Every single year. It never changed and it’s not going to change. This job, that job. The (Tennessee) job’s not open, OK? So I’m not even going to worry about that. We’re going to continue to focus on the (Louisville) basketball team.”
