The Atlanta Braves are nearing an eight-year agreement with outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. He would receive $100 million over the lifetime of his deal.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the deal will include two option years, as well. The deal would kick in this year.

That would mean he would be signed through his age-28 season. If the two options are picked up, then he would be a free agent again at age-30 season.

Acuña Jr. gets a huge payday after just one MLB season. This deal also wipes out his arbitration seasons.

The 21-year-old La Guaira, Venezuela native appeared in 111 games last season. He had a .293 batting average with 26 home runs and 64 RBI’s in 433 at-bats.

He also had 26 doubles and four triples on 127 hits. Acuña Jr. also had 78 runs.

While this could be a huge gamble for the Braves, they are locking up Acuña Jr. for his potential in the long-term. The Los Angeles Angels previously took this same gamble with star Mike Trout. It worked out for them.

Then, Trout re-paid them with a long-term agreement to end his career with the Angels with a $400-plus million deal.
