The Minnesota Timberwolves are retaining interim head coach Ryan Saunders. He will be named the permanent head coach moving forward.

He was named the team’s interim head coach when the team fired Tom Thibodeau in Jan. Scott Layden was also named interim general manager when the move to fire Thibodeau was made.

Layden is expected to be retained, as well. After Thibodeau was fired, the team went 16-24.

This will be a new time for the Timberwolves, as they look to build around Karl-Anthony Towns. Layden will have to find out what to do with Andrew Wiggins and Gorgi Dieng, who have not lived up to expectations.

It may be tough, but Layden should attempt to deal both players. He should attempt to try to get role players to play around KAT, who is the centerpiece of the franchise.

Going into the 2019-20 season, the Timberwolves will not have to worry about changes, as there will be stability with Layden and Saunders. The beginning of this season, there were problems with Jimmy Butler and Wiggins, which led Butler to force a trade.

He was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.

One year after reaching the NBA playoffs, the Timberwolves finished outside of the playoffs this season. They were defeated 120-100 on Tuesday night by the Toronto Raptors.

That loss gave the Wolves a 36-45 record. Their season will come to an end on Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets in Denver, Colorado.
