NBA great Dirk Nowitzki ended his playing career on Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs. He had 20 points in the contest.
In addition, the Dallas Mavericks legend also had 10 rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 32 minutes. He also made two three-point baskets.

Nowitzki scored his final basket in his career in a fadeaway jumper.

Before the game, the Spurs honored their longtime rival before the contest with a video tribute. That made Nowitzki emotional before being introduced.
“I can’t say enough about what the Spurs did for Dirk [Wednesday night],” Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said.
He goes out as the NBA’s sixth-leading scorer. The Wurzburg, Germany native changed the game for big man going from a post-up play to being a knock-down shooter.
The 40-year-old was a first-round draft pick by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1998 NBA Draft. He was traded by the Bucks with Pat Garrity to the Mavericks for Robert “Tractor” Traylor.
In the final season of his career, he made 51 appearances, including 20 starts.
Nowitzki had a combined 50 points in the final two games of his career. He also had 30 points in a win against the Phoenix Suns on April 9th.

Before the 30-point performance, he had not scored at least 20 points in a game since he had 21 points in a win over the Golden State Warriors on March 23rd.
The 30-point performance was his lone 30-point game of the season. He had just two games, where he scored between 20-29 points on the season.
