Alexander Rossi dominated the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday. This was his first win of the 2019 season.
Rossi, driving the NAPA Auto Parts entry for Andretti Autosport, led 80 of the 85 laps. This was also Andretti Autosport’s 200th IndyCar win.
He has won this event for back-to-back years. Rossi is the first driver to win at least two in a row since Sebastien Bourdais won three straight from 2005-07.

Rossi is one of six drivers who has won at least back-to-back events at Long Beach. This list includes Mario Andretti (1984-85), Al Unser Jr. (1988-91 and 1994-95), Alex Zanardi (1997-98), Paul Tracy (2003-04), Bourdais, and Rossi.
Bourdais’ three-peat was with CART. The other back-to-back drivers were with CART.
Since the series became IndyCar in 2008, Rossi has been the only driver to win consecutive years.
He is also the fourth different driver to win a race this season. Josef Newgarden, driving the Hitachi/Verizon entry for Roger Penske, finished second.
There was a controversy between the third and fourth-place finishers. Scott Dixon was credited with the third-place finish in his PNC Bank ride for Chip Ganassi.
Graham Rahal was initially credited with the third-place finish, but it was changed to Dixon. This tied his best season finish, as he also finished fourth in Austin.

Besides Rossi, with his 80 laps led, Newgarden and Will Power led two laps each. Takuma Sato also led one lap.
Only one car did not complete the race. Rookie Colton Herta — who won his first career race in Austin — crashed the King Taco entry for Harding Steinbrenner Racing on Lap 50.
