XFL New rk names Kevin Gilbride as GM and Head Coach

Kevin Gilbride has been named the XFL New York GM and Head Coach on Tuesday. The XFL will launch in 2020.

He has been out of coaching since 2013. The 67-year-old New Haven, Connecticut native spent seven seasons as the New York Giants Offensive Coordinator.


As the Giants Offensive Coordinator, he helped guide the team to two Super Bowl Champions. Both years in 2007 and 2011, New York defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII and XLVI.

Before being named the Giants Offensive Coordinator, he was the Giants Quarterbacks Coach from 2004 through 2006. He also spent two seasons as the Buffalo Bills Offensive Coordinator in 2002 and 2003.

Gilbride was the Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Coordinator in 1999 and 2000. He also was the San Diego Chargers in 1997 and 1998.

He also spent two seasons as the Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Coordinator in 1995 and 1996. He also was the Houston Oilers Offensive Coordinator from 1990 through 1994.

He served as the Oilers Quarterbacks Coach in 1989. He also was the East Carolina Pirates Offensive Coordinator in 1988.

Gilbride was the Pirates Passing Game Coordinator in 1987. He also was the Ottawa Rough Riders Assistant Coach in 1985 and 1986.

He also served as the Southern Connecticut State Fighting Owls from 1980 through 1984. He also was the American International Yellow Jackets Defensive Coordinator in 1978 and 1979.

He was the Tufts Jumbos Linebackers Coach in 1976 and 1977. He began his coaching career as the Idaho State Bengals Linebackers Coach in 1974 and 1975.
