Former college coach Mark Richt joins ACC Network

Former Miami (Florida) Hurricanes head coach Mike Richt has been hired as a Football Studio Analyst for the ACC Network. The network will be debuting on Aug. 22, 2019.

The network, which is owned and operated by ESPN in partnership with the Atlantic Coast Conference, will be a 24/7 national network dedicated to ACC Sports. Once it launches, the network will have 40 regular-season football games.

“I was able to coach for 12 seasons in the ACC, and so, I’m very excited about the opportunity to join ACC Network as a football analyst,” Richt said. “I’m not only looking forward to helping tell the story of one of the greatest football conferences in American, but also staying close to the game that I love so much.”

In its inaugural season, the network will have approx. 450 live events. There will be 150 men’s and women’s basketball games and 200 additional regular season contests.

Besides the ACC Network, the network will also have a digital platform in ACC Network Extra (ACCNE). Combined, the two will host 1,300 ACC events in its first year.

ESPN has been broadcasting the ACC since 1979 when it launched.

The 59-year-old Omaha, Nebraska native previously was the Hurricanes quarterback from 1979 through 1982.

Following his playing career, he served as a graduate assistant with the Florida State Seminoles from 1985-88. He then got hired as the East Carolina Pirates Offensive Coordinator in 1989.

He then got hired as the Seminoles Quarterbacks Coach from 1990-93. He then was promoted to Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for the Seminoles from 1994-00.

Richt was hired as the Georgia Bulldogs head coach from 2001-2015. After being fired by the Bulldogs, he returned to his alma mater, where he coached from 2016 to 2018.
