Thierry Henry will not be the New York Red Bulls Sporting Director, the team announced on Monday. The 41-year-old Les Ulis, France native played for the Red Bulls from 2010 through 2014.

Presently, the team is struggling with a 1-2-4 record through seven games. Only the Atlanta United have a worse record, as they have a 1-2-3 record in six games.

The Red Bulls are being managed by Chris Armas. Henry was most recently the AS Monaco manager.

“Recent reports of Thierry Henry joining the New York Red Bulls are false,” Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said.

Henry was dismissed from AS Monaco in January. The team went 4-11-5 in his tenure.

As a player for the Red Bulls, he had 51 goals in 122 appearances.

On April 17th, a report broke from Sky Sports that speculated that the Red Bulls were in talks with Henry to return to the club. The report suggested that Henry would be the team’s new manager.

“His arrival would raise their profile and have a dramatic effect on their commercial revenues,” the article said.
