Chargers pick up Bosa’s 5th-year option

The Los Angeles Chargers picked up defensive end Joey Bosa’s fifth-year option. This option will go into effect in 2020

Bosa will play under the fourth-year of his deal in 2019. He will make $8.2 million this season.

Next season, he will receive a jump in compensation. In the option Year, he’ll make $14.3 million.

This news comes just days before his brother will be drafted. Nick Bosa will be the latest family member drafted on Thursday night.

He’s expected to be a Top 5 pick. Joey was the third overall pick by the Chargers in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Their father John Bosa played in the NFL from 1987 to 1989.

The 23-year-old Miami, Florida native appeared in seven games with the team in 2018. He made six starts.

He also had 23 tackles, including seven tackles for a loss and nine quarterback hits. He also had 5.5 sacks and one fumble recovery.

In his three-year career, he has made 35 appearances, including 33 starts. He has 134 tackles, including 35 tackles for a loss and 51 quarterback hits.

He has 28.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one pass deflection.
