Mikayla Coombs has made her intentions known that she will be transferring from the UCONN Huskies women’s basketball team. Head coach Geno Auriemma made it official on Tuesday.
Now, Coombs is free to look for her new transfer destination. She could take some time to figure out where she will play the final two years of her career.
If she stays at the Division I level, she will be forced to sit out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
“We appreciate Mikayla for her effort and for being a great teammate the last two seasons,” Auriemma said. “We wish Mikayla and her family the best as she continues her college career.”
This past season, Coombs appeared in 31 games. She did not make a single start.
She averaged 0.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.24 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game in 11.5 minutes per contest.
She appeared in 56 games while a member of the program. She averaged 1.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per contest.
She did; however, play more than 10 minutes in 20 games.
“I would like to thank the UConn community and the coaching staff for everything they have done for me during my time here,” Coombs said. “I wish everyone at UConn the best, and I am excited for the next chapter.”
