Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been suspended by the team. He is not allowed to participate in any team activities pending an investigation.
The Chiefs made the announcement following the conclusion of the first-round. Kansas City did not have a first-round draft pick, as the team traded that pick to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for defensive end Frank Clark.
On Thursday, as the early part of the draft was underway, audio was revealed involving Hill allegedly striking his son, according to KCTV in Kansas City, Missouri. His fiancée allegedly secretly recorded the audio without his knowledge.
Crystal Espinal, Hill’s fiancée, is allegedly heard in the recording, ‘Why did he say daddy did it? Why did he say daddy did it?’ Hill allegedly replies, ‘He says daddy does a lot of things.’
Neither Espinal or Hill were charged this week following a police investigation into a young boy’s broken bones.
Espinal, then allegedly says in the audio, ‘A 3-year-old is not going to lie about what happened to his arm.’ She also said, ‘Daddy did it. He is terrified of you.’
In the audio, Hill allegedly threatens her, “You need to be terrified of me, too, b—-.”
Espinal, later on in the audio, alleges that their son alleges more abuse from Hill, “He kept saying ‘Daddy punches me,’ which you do when he starts crying. What do you do? You make him open up his arms, and you punch him in the chest. Then if he gets in trouble, you get the belt out.’
According to KCTV, the audio recording was allegedly made when the couple were in Dubai International Airport. There was no date of the audio.
On Wednesday, Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe declined to file charges against Hill or Espinal after an investigation. The authorities were called to their residence twice in March, as the child was hurt.
Howe said he believed a crime was there, he couldn’t say whether it was Hill or Espinal, who committed the crime.
Yet, Espinal claims Hill is the problem.
“We were getting into it, and he said, ‘Daddy, you’re mean.’ So we walked up the stairs,” she said. “You said, ‘Come back down here,’ and he didn’t want to go down there. But I was like, ‘Go down there because it will end up worse for you.’ So he walked down there and then you were getting on his [deleted] … Then he started crying, and you were like, ‘Shut up, shut up, stop crying. Shut up, shut up, stop crying.’”
