James McFadden, an Australian driver, has been picked to replace the injured Kasey Kahne in the Wicked Energy Gum No. 9 Sprint Car for several races. McFadden will take over the ride later this month.
Kahne was injured in a crash at Williams Gove Speedway. On the fourth lap, he flipped several times exiting the fourth corner.
He was able to get out of the Sprint Car on his own power. He then talked to an awaiting ambulance to review him for a potential injury.
It is not clear how long Kahne will be out. However, while he will not be driving the Sprint Car, he will be with the team.
McFadden will get the seat at the Patriot Nationals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on May 24-25 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Once Kahne is ready to return, he will re-take the reins of his Sprint Car.
Kasey Kahne Racing was started in 2005 and has more than 15 employees that are dedicated to Spring Car racing. The team fields two cars, Kahne’s No. 9 and Brad Sweet’s No. 49 in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
Since the team was started, the team has more than 170 wins, including the prestigious Knoxville Nationals in 2018 and the Kings Royal in 2013. Both of these events were won by Sweet.
