Washington expected Foster to be one of their starting linebackers during the 2019 season. However, the Redskins will have to look elsewhere.

Foster — who was eligible to play right away this season after not being suspended following two domestic violence arrests in 2018 — appears to be a significant injury. The team may have lost Foster for the season.

Foster will have to go through tests to determine the severity of the injury. If he’s not able to play with a season-ending injury, the Redskins will have to use the free agent or trade market to find his replacement.

The 25-year-old Auburn, Alabama native has never played for the team. The former 2017 first-round pick was released by the 49ers following a domestic violence arrest in Tampa, Florida on November 24, 2018.

Three days after his arrest, he was claimed off waivers by the Washington Redskins. He was placed on the NFL’s Commissioner List immediately following the Redskins claiming him off waivers.

Washington received intense criticism over their move to add Foster. Yet, his charges from the Tampa, Florida incident were dropped in January.
