Sheri Camarena is the new Bulldogs boy’s basketball coach at Safford High School in Arizona. While she has coached other teams at the school, this is a rare hire.

She is the only woman to lead a boys basketball program in Arizona next season. However, three-years ago, Michelle Berry also led a boys basketball team in Arizona.

Berry was the boy’s and girl’s basketball coach at the same time at The Gregory School in Tucson, Arizona. Following that one season, Craig Everson was hired as the boy’s basketball coach in March 2017.

Berry is no longer the women’s basketball coach. According to, Angela Vande Mheen is the women’s basketball coach.

However, according to Berry’s LinkedIn, which may or may not be current, lists her still as a coach at the school.

Besides being the boy’s basketball coach at Safford, Camarena is also the girls volleyball and tennis coach.

“We are excited to have Coach Camarena on board because of the experience and expertise she will bring to our program,” Athletic Director Toni Corona said. “She is a well-respected leader in our school and community,”

She is taking over a Safford program that went 14-14 this past season.
