Capco Contractors Top Fuel Dragster pilot Steve Torrence is the No. 1 qualifier on Saturday in Topeka, Kansas. His time from Friday held up to claim the Top Fuel top spot at the Menard’s NHRA Heartland Nationals presented by Minties at Heartland Motorsports Park.
Torrence went 3.760 at 325.45 mph during his second qualifying pass on Friday night. This is his 21st No. 1 qualifier of the season.
“I tell you what, probably all of the odds are against us. Richard Hogan (crew chief) and Bobby Lagana (crew chief) and that whole Capco group over there are doing awesome. My dad [Billy] has come out and done really well. We’ve got a lot of pipeliners back home working really hard to keep us out here and, ‘thank you’ to them. It’s Topeka and I’ve never won here in Top Fuel and I’m hoping that we can get the monkey off our back and do some good here tomorrow.”
The Kilgore, Texas native will face Terry Totten in the first-round of eliminations. The Gretna, Nebraska native went 6.942 at 84.66 mph.
Fellow Capco Contractors pilot Billy Torrence is the No. 2 qualifier. The Kilgore, Texas native went 3.765 at 323.58 mph.
He’ll face Lex Joon in the first-round of eliminations. The Indianapolis, Indiana native went 4.848 at 156.01 mph.
Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist pilot Austin Prock is the No. 3 qualifier. The Danville, Indiana native went 3.783 at 315.42 mph.
Prock will face Cameron Ferré in the first-round of eliminations. The Huntington Beach, California native went 4.145 at 229.90 mph.
Matco Tools pilot Antron Brown is the No. 4 qualifier. The Pittsboro, Indiana native went 3.798 at 292.33 mph.
Brown will face Scott Palmer in the first-round of eliminations. The Cassville, Missouri native went 3.890 at 310.55 mph.
Mac Tools pilot Doug Kalitta is the No. 5 qualifier. The Ann Arbor, Michigan native went 3.800 at 325.22 mph.
Kalitta will face Leah Pritchett in the first-round of eliminations. The Avon, Indiana native went 3.883 at 318.47 mph.
