Top Fuel Dragster return this weekend to Bristol Dragway for the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tennessee. This is race No. 11 of 24 on the NHRA Mell Yello Drag Racing Series from Friday, June 14 to Sunday, June 16, 2019.
Ron Capps will be looking for his third straight win in Bristol. He defeated Bob Tasca III in the final round last year.
The Carlsbad, California native went 4.234 at 296.37 mph for the Wally. The Hope, Rhode Island native went 4.300 at 286.98 mph in the losing effort.
Both Capps and Tasca III will be competing this weekend in Bristol. Capps will be looking for his third win in the past five races, as he won in Atlanta and Virginia.
Reigning Funny Car champion J.R. Todd will also be on the property, as will his Kalitta Motorsports teammate Shawn Langdon, who won his first Funny Car race in April in Concord, North Carolina. John Force Racing will have their two Funny Cars on the property in living legend John Force and Robert Hight.
Force is looking for his 150th career win. He had a semifinal appearance last weekend at the Menard’s NHRA Heartland Nationals presented by Minties in Topeka, Kansas.
Besides Capps, his Don Schumacher Racing teammates Tommy Johnson Jr., Jack Beckman, and Matt Hagan will also be there. Johnson Jr. won his first race since 2017 in Elwood, Illinois two weeks ago.
Full-time pilot Tim Wilkerson will be competing there in his Levi, Ray & Shoup Inc. Funny Car. Fellow full-time pilot Cruz Pedregon will be there in his Snap-On Funny Car.
Lastly, full-time pilot Jim Campbell will be there in the Dunn Racing Funny Car.
There will be 15 Funny Cars on the property. All will make the show on Sunday with one bye in the first-round.
The other Funny Cars on the property include Terry Haddock, “The Surfer” Jeff Diehl, and Jonnie Lindberg. The Head Racing pilot missed Joliet, as he was back home in Sweden preparing to become a U.S. citizen.
Capps is the all-time winner at this property. He has five career wins at Bristol Dragway, including 2018, 2017, 2012, 2006, and 2001.
