A van that was carrying a young wrestling team overturned in Alabama, according to the Associated Press. There were multiple injuries from the accident.
The van flipped on U.S. Highway 231 in Montgomery, Alabama. There were nine occupants in the van, according to State Trooper Cpl. Jesse Thornton, when it overturned.
The young wrestlers were from the Warrior Wrestling Club near Calera, Alabama.
“Earlier today a group of wrestlers from AL and TN headed south to compete in the AAU Scholastic Duals at Disney,” the Warrior Wrestling Club statement said. During the drive down one of the vans was involved in an accident. All parents have been informed. With respect to the parents and wrestlers we will not be disclosing any names or injuries. All we ask is for your prayers.”
The cause of the accident is not clear at this time. The investigation by the authorities is ongoing.
The van, according to the report, had damage to its rear and roof, along with several windows being broken out.
According to WSFA 12, a medical helicopter was called to transport a severely injured individual to the hospital. Multiple ambulances and fire unites were also there, WSFA 12 reports.
Thornton said there were some ejections from the crash. However, he did not say how many.
He also said that the van was traveling to Disney World for a wrestling tournament. There were 11 incidents in the van when it went off the road.
