Francis N’Gannou needed little time to dispatch Junior Dos Santos. He knocked out dos Sanots in their UFC Fight Night main event on Saturday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
N’Gannou needed just one minute and 11 seconds to end the fight of the two heavy-hitting fighters.
After leg kicks by each man, dos Santos overextended on a overhand-right. That left him open to be hit by N’Gannou.
The Frenchman hit the Brazilian with a right hook. N’Gannou then followed dos Santos to the mat, where he quickly put away the fight with several hammerfists to get the win.
The 32-year-old improved to 14-3 in his MMA career. With the win, this is his 10th knockout of his career.
However, since 2015, this is his ninth knockout. He is tied with Vicente Luque, who also has nine. Thiago Santos has the most during this time with 10.
This is N’Gannou’s third straight win. In fact, this fight with JDS went longer than his previous two fights with Cain Velasquez and Curtis Blaydes.
He knocked out Blaydes in 45 seconds. He then knocked out Velasquez in 26 seconds.
The majority of N’Gannou’s wins have come in the first round. Only wins over Blaydes, Luis Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira, and William Baldutti came in the second round.
The 35-year-old fell to 21-6 in his MMA career. This is the fourth time he has been knocked out in a loss.
This loss snapped his three fight win streak. His previous loss before this one to N’Gannou came to Stipe Miocic when he lost in the first-round at UFC 211 on May 13, 2017.
This was also dos Santos’ quickest loss in his career. This loss to N’Gannou was two seconds quicker than his previous quickest loss by Joaquim Ferreira at MTL – Final via armbar submission at 1:13 in the first-round on November 10, 2007.
