Jorge Masvidal has given Ben Askren his first MMA loss. In fact, he only needed five seconds to get the win at UFC 239 in Las Vegas.
Masvidal used a flying knee to get the win. As soon as Askren was hit on the side of the head, he went limp.
Masvidal now has the fastest win in UFC history.
As of this post, it is just the second knockout on the UFC 239 pay-per-view. Yadong Song defeated Alejandro Perez by knockout (punches) in the fourth bout on the card.
The 34-year-old Miami, Florida native improved to 33-13 with the win. This is his 15th career knockout victory.
He is now on a two-fight win streak. He also defeated Darren Till by KO (Punches) in March 2019 at UFC Fight Night.
This was Masvidal’s first knockout in the first-round since he defeated Jake Ellenberger on December 3, 2016 at the The Ultimate Fighter 24 Finale. Ellenberger was knocked out at 4:05 in the round.
Askren suffered his first defeat in his MMA career after 19 wins. He also had a no contest against Luis Santos at One Championship 28 on April 24, 2015 due to an eye poke.
This was his third fight in the UFC. Now, with this loss, Askren will have to regroup and the 34-year-old Phoenix, Arizona native will have to decide what’s next.
