Jon Jones retained his light heavyweight championship belt. He won via a split decision on Saturday night against Thiago Santos at UFC 239 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

One judge gave Santos a 48-47 score. Two other judges gave Jones the win with 48-47 scores.

It appeared that the fight on the judges card came down to the second round. In that second round, some judges gave Jones a take down when Santos slipped.

Also, throughout the fight, Santos was battling leg problems. Joe Rogan speculated that the Brazilian may have suffered a torn ACL during the bought.

Jones improved to 25-0-1 in his MMA career. This was the Rochester, New York native’s ninth win by decision on his career.

This was Jones’ first decision win since he defeated Ovince St. Preux at UFC 197. He won by unanimous decision on April 23, 2016.

With the win, this is Jones’ third straight win since December 2018. He has defeated Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith, before receiving the split decision against Santos.

This is the first split decision in Jones’ career.

Santos fell to 21-7 in his MMA career. “Marreta” saw his four fight win streak snapped with this loss to Jones.

It is just his second loss by decision. The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native previously had one loss to decision, which came to Uriah Hall at UFC 175 by unanimous decision on July 5, 2014.
