Maple Grove Raceway have cancelled racing this weekend. The officials at the track are concerned with the excessive heat that will hit the Northeast this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, it is expected to be 95 in Mohnton, PA on Friday. Then, on Saturday, the temperature will be 98.

On Sunday, it is expected to go down to 94 with a chance of Isolated Thunderstorms.

“For those of you who do not actually understand the purpose of cancelling this weekend’s racing, we thank you,” Maple Grove Raceway management said in a statement on Facebook. “The track team does NOT need to be here every weekend. A large majority of them have full time jobs that keeps them busy Monday through Friday. But they come in faithfully and stand in the elements for hours upon hours because they love the sport and want to provide a safe place for the racers to run.

“At the end of the day, life is short and no race, event, money, prizes, etc. are more important than someone’s life. Many of the track team put their health on the back burner for this sport, and even the best succumb to heat exhaustion. We all love the fact that the sport of drag racing is special because we are all a family. And no one ever wants to see their family put their health in danger.”

The Auto Locator Friday Grudge Night #13 & King of the Street Top Ten List was scheduled for Friday at the track. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, the Sunoco Race Fuels ET Series #10 and #11 were scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday.

The next Auto Locator Friday Grudge Night is scheduled for July 26th. The next Sunoco Race Fuels ET Series are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 10th and 11th.
