The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed head coach Mike Tomlin to a one-year contract extension. He is now signed through the 2021 season.

Tomlin has been the Steelers head coach since the 2007 season. According to Pro Football Reference, Tomlin is 125-66-1 in 192 games in 12 seasons with the team. Tomlin has been the Steelers head coach since the 2007 season.

“I am pleased to announce we have extended Mike Tomlin’s contract through the 2021 season,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II. “Mike is one of the most successful head coaches in the National Football League, and we are confident in his leadership to continue to lead our team as we pursue our goal of winning another championship.”

The 47-year-old Tomlin is only the third head coach in franchise history since 1969. Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher were the previous two coaches.

He guided the team to a 9-6-1 record in 2018. The Steelers missed out on the playoffs after making the extra season in the previous three seasons.

Pittsburgh has only missed the playoffs four times during his 12 seasons. Besides the 2018 season, the team also missed the playoffs in 2009, 2012, and 2013.

“I am very appreciative of this contract extension and opportunity and want to thank Art Rooney II and everyone in the organization for the support in my first 12 seasons,” said Tomlin. “We have a goal of winning the organization’s seventh Super Bowl championship, and I couldn’t be more excited about this upcoming season.”
